Sebastian Schubmehl, born in Saarland, studied communication design with a focus on typography at Hochschule Trier under Andreas Hogan and Dirk Wachowiak. Via smehl.com he has worked in the field of cross-media visual communication since 2021. Both independently and in friendly collaboration with project-based, changing partners and agencies, books, typefaces, visual identities, websites, posters and much more are created. His typographic work has received multiple international awards, been published and exhibited. He currently teaches typography in the Intermedia Design program at Hochschule Trier.

Areas of activity
At the forefront are projects for companies, associations and individuals – particularly often in the field of event and corporate design –, type design (both custom type and retail fonts) as well as the design of books and magazines. Own print materials, objects and books are also repeatedly published in small editions and can be purchased. In addition to this comes giving lectures, exhibitions, workshops, teaching and supervising student projects.
A flexible network and close collaboration with partners and agencies make it possible to realize complex projects of various scales. The work is carried out both independently and dynamically in groups — between Trier, Basel and Kyiv.
A rapidly changing world often requires cross-border approaches for the targeted communication of complex issues. The work is carried out routinely interdisciplinary and — wherever possible — also transdisciplinary. Flexible, sustainable, contemporary and individual.
Collaboration
A flexible network and close collaboration with partners and agencies make it possible to realise complex projects of varying scale in compact teams. Work happens both independently and dynamically in groups — between Trier (DE), Basel (CH) and Kyiv (UA).
Transdisciplinarity
A rapidly changing world often calls for solutions that cross disciplinary boundaries in order to communicate complex matters effectively. Work happens routinely and flexibly across disciplines and, wherever possible, transdisciplinarily. Flexible, sustainable, contemporary and individual.
Flexible Design Systems
To ensure high adaptability and responsiveness to dynamic contexts and content, contemporary design always includes developing flexible, well-scalable design systems. This is achieved through forward-thinking, collaborative conceptual work — from the first briefing to the final application.

Invitations to give talks about working methods, projects, design research or keynotes are welcome — remote or in person.
Teaching
Working with students in workshops and projects — whether as a single session or over a longer period — is a particular pleasure. Inquiries from educational institutions and teaching assignments are always welcome.
